Crowd & Co is an online marketplace where in-house teams, businesses and law firms (clients) can find lawyers to work flexibly on a project-by-project basis. Clients post assignments on the marketplace and Crowd lawyers pitch for that work. Crowd & Co provides a complete platform to manage the work, invoice and pay.
Join Crowd & Co as a lawyer member and gain free access to the marketplace. It is only when you transact in the marketplace that you pay a service fee.
The Crowd & Co marketplace is for commercial lawyers and legal advice, broadly defined. This includes all aspects of
- Banking and finance
- Corporate and commercial law
- Dispute resolution and litigation
- Mergers and acquisitions
The work may require a couple of hours, days or months. There is no upper or lower limit to the amount of time the assignment may take, or the invoice amount.
Crowd & Co is not the right platform for criminal law, family law, residential conveyancing or probate.
- Complete your profile and experience. We suggest that you keep this as general as possible and be mindful of confidentiality when describing matters on which you have worked.
- Upload a copy your current practising certificate and professional indemnity insurance.
- Provide the names of two client or industry referees who will vouch for you.
- Those two referees need to return to us confirming your details and experience.
- Agree to our Terms and Conditions.

Your referees should be clients, former employers or others who can endorse your skills and experience. We do not accept references from staff members.
Our vouching system is automated. Your referees will receive an email from Crowd & Co asking them to verify your credentials and experience. These references are confidential to Crowd & Co and we will not release their contact details.
Clients post opportunities they need lawyers to fill on the Crowd & Co marketplace. This includes
- A brief description of the work
- The type of work - what industry or area of law
- The level of experience they require
- Which state / country the work is in
- Where they would like the lawyer to work (in their office or off-site)
- Their budget for the assignment
- Whether they will pay a fixed fee, or by the hour or day
Those details will be pushed anonymously to all lawyers on Crowd & Co's membership list who meet that criteria.
If you would like to pitch for the work, you respond to the client through the marketplace to pitch for the work.
You and the client negotiate the length of the project, the terms and the project fee all within the Crowd & Co platform.
Ensure that you have read the Crowd & Co marketplace Terms and Conditions, which preclude you from making separate arrangements with the client.
As a Crowd & Co member, you will receive a push notification (email) when an assignment has been posted in your practice area.
You can also search the site for assignments that are relevant to you.
Clients can specify when the assignment is posted whether they would prefer you to work in their office or off-site. Crowd & Co also has provision for you to work in our flexible offices with Space & Co in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. contact us for more information.
Crowd & Co is a membership-based platform. Only the client who has posted the assignment on the marketplace can see the pitch that you have made.
Note that Crowd & Co's Terms and Conditions stipulate that you will keep all client information confidential, as required also by legal professional ethics and rules.
Clients will require you to execute a non-disclosure agreement as part of the engagement agreement.
Once you have been engaged, the Crowd & Co platform houses documents securely within the project management platform, which means that only the client and the lawyers/s working on the documentation can view it.
You must declare if you have a conflict of interest, or potential conflict of interest under the relevant Law Council / Legal Professional Practice rules in the State or Territory in which you hold a practising certificate.
The ultimate client will need to be disclosed to you in order that you can be satisfied that there is no conflict. This is done on a confidential basis.
On the completion of the assignment, or as agreed with the client, you raise an invoice for the work completed within the Crowd & Co platform. The invoice is automatically sent to the client.
When the invoice is payed, you receive your fee, less the Crowd & Co service fee appropriate for your membership plan. Our payment gateway is with PromisePay.
